Fall
Definition
Fall is one of the two classical essential debilities: the sign opposite a planet's exaltation. In that position, the planet finds less support from its symbolic environment for expressing its nature with clarity. Classical astrology calls fall a negative dignity, not a punishment but a point on the zodiacal wheel where the planet's signature is harder to sustain.
In context
The Sun falls in Libra, the Moon in Scorpio, Jupiter in Capricorn, Saturn in Aries. A Saturn in Aries has to work against the current: Saturn's native discipline and structure collide with the initiating push of the sign. Fall does not cancel the planet; it forces the planet to develop its function under more internal friction. The learning often matures late and produces, with years, a more conscious version of the planetary archetype.
To go deeper
Fall sits within the system of planetary dignities:
- Exaltation: the opposite sign, where the planet shines best.
- Detriment: the other negative dignity.
- Domicile: the planet's own sign.
