Dispositor
Definition
A dispositor is the planet that rules the sign a different planet sits in within a natal chart. If your chart has a planet placed in a given sign, the ruler of that sign automatically becomes dispositor of that planet. This chain of relationships forms a hidden network inside the chart that classical astrology called the tree of disposition, and it describes who functionally outranks whom on the symbolic map of the person being read. It is a structural reading, not a predictive one.
In context
Imagine you have Venus in Aries. Mars rules Aries, so Mars is the dispositor of your Venus: whatever Venus wants to express passes through the signature of Mars before it reaches the outside. If Mars sits in Capricorn, then Saturn becomes the dispositor of Mars and, by extension, a second-order dispositor of Venus. Tracing the chain lets you see which planet the energy of the chart converges on: if every chain ends at one planet, that planet is called the final dispositor and usually describes a central axis of the personality across the whole map.
To go deeper
Dispositor opens a structural reading that leans on neighboring terms:
- Ruler: planet that governs a sign.
- Domicile: sign where a planet rules itself.
- Final dispositor: planet the chain converges on.
